Located on the Darling Scarp just 30 minutes from Perth, Lesmurdie Falls offers dramatic views of cascading water against forested rockfaces. The lookout platform above provides sweeping vistas of the Perth skyline, while the base walk takes you closer to the falls for powerful compositions.
Drones are not permitted within Lesmurdie Falls National Park due to its classification as a protected area. The valley is narrow and often busy with walkers — stick to traditional photography and respect park signage.
Bring a tripod and ND filter to capture silky water effects at the base of the falls. A wide-angle lens (16–35mm) helps frame the full drop of the falls and surrounding bush. The upper lookout is great for city skyline backdrops during sunrise. Use a polariser to reduce glare on wet rocks and enhance green tones.
Best during winter and spring (June–October) when water flow is strongest. Mornings provide soft light and fewer people. Avoid midday sun which flattens detail.
Stay on marked paths to prevent erosion. Rocks near the base can be slippery — use caution. Respect other visitors, especially on narrow tracks.
